Designing the C40 City Academy on Finance and Equity Workbook

I was delighted to work as Design Lead on the City Academy on Finance and Equity (CAFE) Workbook, developed for the C40 Cities Finance Facility in collaboration with Mineral Springs.

The workbook is a comprehensive learning resource designed to support city officials developing sustainable and equitable infrastructure projects, bringing together learning around the climate challenges facing cities, equity and inclusion, climate finance and project preparation.

My role was to help transform a large amount of detailed and sometimes complex material into something clear, accessible and engaging to work through — developing the visual approach, illustrations, diagrams and overall design of the workbook.

One of the things I enjoy most about this kind of project is finding ways for design and illustration to do more than simply make information look good. Here, the challenge was to help people navigate complex ideas, see relationships between them and, importantly, apply the learning within the context of their own city.

The finished CAFE Workbook combines information, case studies, practical exercises and tools across four chapters, and is now available as a stand-alone learning resource for cities internationally.

It was a lovely project to be part of — combining visual storytelling, information design and learning design around some of the big questions facing cities as they work towards a greener and more equitable future.
