Cancer Awareness Initiative
Don’t Be Stuck is a community-led training and engagement initiative created for the Irish Traveller Community in 2025, with a full pilot planned for 2026 before rollout of the full pack. The pack is designed to support Travellers to reduce their risk of cancer and feel more confident taking the first step towards early diagnosis.
Our studio delivered the project end-to-end. This included planning and facilitating a series of focus groups with Traveller communities in Cork and Kerry, undertaking in-depth research, and writing all content for the toolkit, training materials and animation scripts. We also produced the full pack, covering design, illustration and a short animation created to be used alongside draft and reworked text during training and community conversations.
The toolkit brings together practical facilitator guides, animated persona stories, role-play prompts and clear, plain-language health information and recommendations for health practitioners, all grounded in lived experience and community insight. It has been developed in close collaboration with Traveller participants and health partners, and has been approved and very positively received by both the HSE and the Traveller community to date. The full pack is scheduled for public release in 2026.
At the heart of the pack is the aim to train and support community champions, including Travellers themselves, to have confident, compassionate conversations about health. The toolkit equips champions with the skills, language and resources to build trust, reduce fear and stigma, and support others in their community to take small, positive steps towards care and early diagnosis. By centring Traveller voices, lived experience and existing research, the approach strengthens peer-led support and helps ensure messages are shared in ways that feel safe, relevant and culturally grounded.
